Extendicare's West End Villa is reporting its sixth COVID-19 related death this week, as its total case count climbs to 53 in the facility.
Ottawa Public Health (OPH) says 46 residents and seven staff members have contracted the virus since the outbreak started at the long-term care home on August 30.
There are 19 institutions dealing with outbreaks of COVID-19 in Ottawa, but none are seeing cases in the volume that West End Villa is at the moment. The next largest outbreak is at Laurier Manor, as they are reporting 14 (11 residents and three staff members) cases of the virus. The majority of institutions on OPH's current list have just one or two cases.
Meanwhile, OPH is confirming 60 new cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa, Wednesday. It's seen more than 200 new cases in just the last four days.
The number of active cases in the city is up to 401.
The good news is that hospitalization numbers have remained steady at just 11 with one person in intensive care.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Ottawa has confirmed 3,447 cases of COVID-19, with 2,773 (80.4 per cent) of those resolved.
