This year's Doctor's Day will be celebrating the hard work of healthcare workers in a different way than previous years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Ontario Medical Association (OMA) is urgiging people this May 1, across the province to "shine a light" to show their gratitude for health care professionals battling the COVID-19 pandemic.
The OMA is encouraging people to hold up a light, whether it's their cell phone, a candle or any other light source, for five minutes at 9 p.m. on Friday.
Dr. Sohail Gandhi, director at the Ontario Medical Association, believes it's important to show signs of support during the pandemic.
"Little gestures mean a lot to people, just that little extra kind word that says 'Thank you for what you're doing' or that little extra gesture of support," Gandhi explains. "That's why we thought it would be a nice way to recognize our physicians."
Those who participate are also encouraged to take pictures of their show of support and share them at doctorsday.ca.
