Basketball is set to take centre stage in a town, very proud to call itself the birthplace of basketball inventor James Naismith.

Mississippi Mills has set up an outdoor viewing party for NBA Final Game 2 between the Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors, June 2.

The event gets underway behind old Almonte Town Hall (14 Bridge Street) at 7 p.m. The venue can hold about 1,500 people.

Community Economic and Cultural Coordinator for Mississippi Mills Tiffany MacLaren says it's a great place to come celebrate basketball, as fans can come take a picture with the town's bronze statue of Naismith just steps away from the old town hall.

If sports fans want to take in even more history, the James Naismith Museum is open seven days a week in the downtown and there are nearby murals of the basketball inventor.

MacLaren says there is a backup plan if it rains on Sunday; the event will be moved to a nearby auditorium that can hold about 250, but she's keeping her fingers crossed for good weather.
