A popular ByWard Market restaurant that was destroyed by Friday's massive blaze will be rebuilt, according to one of its owners.

The fire happened as Domenic Santaguida was on a flight home from Italy, He learned about the fire when he landed, and turned on his phone to find a slew of texts and voicemails.

"I think there was 100-plus messages," said Santaguida, co-owner, Vittoria Trattoria restaurant. "A combination of business partners, friends, family."

Santaguida says he's been involved with the restaurant for more than half of his life, and losing it leaves a huge void.

"(The restaurant) pre-dates the birth of our children," Santaguida told Ottawa Today with Mark Sutcliffe on 1310 NEWS. "It felt like part of us was dead."

Santaguida says he and his business partners are actively looking for locations to open up a pop-up restaurant until they can rebuild their ByWard Market flagship. In the meantime, Vittoria Trattoria's other two locations, on Riverside Drive and in Westboro, remain open.
