Ottawa Fire Services and the Office of the Fire Marshal say a massive fire at Vittoria Trattoria in the ByWard Market happened accidentally.
Flames started Friday morning, in the northeast corner of the building's roof, where roofing work was underway.
Officials say four of 12 units in the building at 35 William Street sustained more than $2-million in damage. The commercial complex was salvaged thanks to rapid fire suppression activities and strategies.
The OFS explains that aggressive extinguishing efforts ultimately prevented extensive damage in most businesses in the row on William Street.
