An Ottawa fire investigator is working to determine what caused a house fire at 6075 Voyageur Dr.

Crews were called to the house just after 3 p.m., Wednesday, when it received a 911 call reporting heavy brown smoke coming from the home's chimney.

Upon arrival, firefighters declared a working fire, as there was also heavy flames visible from the front of the home. The blaze was upgraded to a second alarm.

Ottawa fire officials say the home was unoccupied at the time of the call, so no one was injured, however the family pets did die in the fire.

Victim Services have been requested to assist the homeowners.

The fire was declared under control at 3:41 p.m.

The Canadian Red Cross and the Salvation Army will both be assisting those affected by this incident.
