Ottawa may see some messy weather on New Year’s Eve.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement forecasting snow and possibly freezing rain for central and eastern Ontario Monday evening.

The weather agency said the nation's capital can probably expect five to 10 centimetres of snow, followed by freezing rain and then rain, as temperatures may climb Monday night.

Environment Canada said travel conditions will likely be difficult from Monday evening into Tuesday morning.
