A local health unit southwest of Ottawa is warning people to be aware of reports of someone impersonating a public health inspector.
The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit says the fake health inspector has been reported in the Smiths Falls and Cardinal areas.
The health unit says its public health inspectors will always carry official identification, provided by the health unit. It also reminds residents that public health inspectors will never ask business owners to pay fees during an inspection and will never request payment information.
If you suspect you are the victim of fraud, the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit encourages you to report the fraud to your local police department.
