Eugene Melnyk "stands firmly by his recounting" of an exchange between he and newly appointed Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport Lisa MacLeod, at a Rolling Stones concert.

That recounting from last Saturday includes the minister going on a tirade, swearing at Melnyk and calling him a loser.

MacLeod has defended herself, saying she was just having a blunt conversation with Melnyk about the state of his hockey team.

The Ottawa Senators say Melnyk has since received a call from Premier Doug Ford.

A statement from the team said Melnyk "had a very positive conversation with the Premier of Ontario, which he intends to keep private, but he is grateful for the leadership the Premier showed and was impressed with how [Ford] approached this difficult situation."

The team said further, "While Mr. Melnyk understands and respects the media and public interested in this story, he believes this is a story about the actions of Ontario's Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport and requests the media to direct their queries accordingly."

Melnyk will be making no further comment on the matter.
