A Montreal area man is dead following a collision on Highway 50.

Shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Sûreté du Québec was called to the area of Grenville-sur-la-Rouge, Que. for a collision between a pickup truck and an RV.

According to preliminary information, the truck was traveling eastbound on the highway, when for some reason it went into the westbound lane and hit the oncoming RV.

First responders tried to resuscitate the 50-year-old driver of RV, but he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the pick-up truck had to be extricated from the vehicle before being taken to hospital, where they remain in critical but stable condition.

Highway 50 had to be closed for several hours for the investigation.

Police have not yet released the victims' identities.

It's not known if any charges will be laid.
