The Deputy Mayor is calling on the City of Ottawa to implement a social media policy for city councillors and staff.
Laura Dudas says recent posts on Twitter have been 'abusive' and have led to a firestorm of misogynistic comments and other forms of cyberbullying.
The councillor for Innes ward says her daughters use social media and have to read many negative comments about their mother.
"What kind of example are we setting as city leadership," she explained.
Dudas says councillors would never put personal attacks in ward newsletters, and wondered why it would acceptable to post it.
She wants to see a social media policy implemented for councillors, similar to one in Toronto.
