The number of young people vaping has Ottawa Public Health so concerned that it wants Health Canada to curb the trend, with actions that include banning certain flavours of vaping liquid.

The health unit has compiled a list of recommendations, which include banning the sale of vape flavours and products that are designed to appeal to teens and young adults.

Ottawa Public Health says restricting access to these vape flavours is an evidence-based strategy to de-normalize vaping and smoking among young people.

Other recommendations include childproof packaging of vaping liquids that contain nicotine, and a public information campaign about the risks and myths of vaping.
