Owners of $1.1-million Alta Vista home launch 'pay-it-forward' lottery after home didn't sell

Someone could now win the home for just $25.
A lottery is being held for the home at 2286 Bowman Road. $25 and an essay will get you an entry.

Do you think you're worthy of winning a $1.1 million home? Can you promise to pay it forward? Do you have $25?

An Ottawa couple bought a home in Alta Vista last year, fully restored it and then put it up on the market for $1,149,000.

But, it didn't sell.

The owners then decided to launch a contest to give the house away, but they had some rules.

First, contestants have to pay a $25 entry fee, but the home owners are also asking for a 100 word essay explaining what winning this house would mean and how the winner would pay it forward.

The sellers also need 50,000 entries by August 13 to move forward. If that number is not reached, they may extend the deadline another three months.

The couple has said they hope the home goes to a family who will 'live a full and joyous life' here in Ottawa.
