Pembroke going ahead with Santa Claus Parade — but with a twist (and shout)

The city is changing things up to adapt to COVID-19 restrictions and making this year's parade a drive-thru. This year's theme: retro parade.

Nothing can stop Santa Claus, not even COVID-19.

Kids just might have to see him from the comfort of their cars this year in Pembroke, though, instead of lining the streets of the city like they normally do.

The City of Pembroke announced Wednesday that instead of the tradition Santa Claus Parade, it will be hosting a drive-thru Santa Claus Parade at Riverside Park.

The parade is scheduled for Saturday, November 28 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Floats will be set up throughout the park lining the roads, and cars will be able to drive-thru to see everything lit up.

This year’s theme: retro parade.

“Float creators are encouraged to channel Christmas’ past and showcase their favourite Christmas memories. With this Christmas theme there are so many options to explore,” the city said on its website.

“Of course, this year with COVID-19 restrictions there will have to be some changes to normal float procedure. Currently, due to gathering restrictions there will be no one allowed on the floats but participants are encouraged to come up with safe and fun ways to get their families involved in creating their float or sharing a Christmas message.”

Families must stay in their car and follow the directed path that will be indicated.
