The Ottawa Senators Foundation will soon be known as the Ottawa-Gatineau Youth Foundation after the organization cut ties with the NHL club in June.

A statement from the board of directors announced the change Tuesday morning saying that as of August 1 the organization will be known as the Ottawa-Gatineau Youth Foundation.

The foundation that helps to improve the lives of families in the Ottawa area was launched in January 1998. The basis of the organization will remain the same under its new name.

In the charity's 22 years, the funds raised provided more than $35 million in grants to charitable organizations throughout eastern Ontario and western Quebec.

"Together, we have made a measurable difference in the lives of children and youth throughout the region by providing countless game-changing opportunities," said Brad Weir, the foundation's director of communications and community programs.

The board said they are focused on the official launch of the Ottawa-Gatineau Youth Foundation in September.
