1926 - 2019
Died peacefully on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the age of 92. Hugh is survived by his wife Elaine (Asselin), son Scott and daughter-in-law Jo-Ann. He was predeceased by his parents, Hugh Cairney and Violet (Helman) and his brothers William and Ronald. Also left to mourn are his cherished grandsons Ethan and Evan, sister-in-law Lois and beloved nieces and nephews. After his military service, Hugh apprenticed as a cabinet maker, worked as a lumber grader, and attended the University of Toronto. He found his calling as an entrepreneur developing Modernfold in Ottawa. He created many happy memories for his family and friends at the Norway Bay cottage, Manderley which he designed and started building when he was 18. Playing gold and curling with friends at the Ottawa Hunt were sources of great joy. Special thanks to the staff of Stillwater Creek Retirement Residence for their care, kindness and smiles. Wednesday, February 13, 2019 from 2-4 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception. Hugh will be laid to rest at Notre Dame Cemetery at a later date. In Memoriam donations to Parkinson Canada would be appreciated.
