Our mother lived three months short of 100 years and saw many changes throughout her long life. She died with profound dignity on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa. She was surrounded by the love of her children. She was the much-loved only daughter of Ovila Beaudry and Mary (Cates) Beaudry. Born on July 24, 1919, she was a life-long resident of Ottawa. She met and married our father, the late Roy Copeland. Mom is forever loved and will be missed by her children; sons Patrick (JoAnn), London, UK; Paul (Carol Anne), Terry and Kevin, daughters Sharon Delorme (Moe) all of Ottawa and Carole McDougall, (Halifax, NS). She was deeply loved and shared a wicked sense of humour with grandchildren Sean (Kim), Matt (Birgit), Dan (Sophie), Christopher (Rachelle), Gregory and Patrick Copeland; Paula, Michaela (Graham) and Joanna Copeland-O’Reilly; Michael (Megan), Patrick (Lisa), Catherine McDougall; Erin and Neilan Copeland; Mark, Janet (Chris Cole) and John Kennedy (Sylvie). She is also survived by great-grandchildren Alex and William Copeland; Meia and Erika Copeland; Jack Copeland; Emma and Taite Cole; Owen and Liam Ahearn; Siena and Hayden O’Reilly; Rose McDougall; sister-in-law Fran Copeland and many nieces and nephews.
Mom volunteered for 25 years at the Ottawa Heart Institute where she gave time and comfort to families facing difficult and life changing surgeries. She chose to help other families following dad’s heart surgery because she knew the stress, anxiety and potential heartbreak. Our family appreciates the dedication, comfort and compassion the nursing staff at the Queensway Carleton provided through her final days. We are extremely grateful to our sister, Sharon for looking after mom’s personal, medical, dental and other needs as she moved from independent to assisted living over the last number of years. The family would like to invite and appreciate friends joining them at a Mass of Christian Funeral at St. Patrick’s Parish Fallowfield, 15 Steeple Hill Cres. Nepean on Friday, April 26, 2019. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until commencement of the Mass at 11 a.m.. A time of refreshment and fellowship will follow in the Parish Hall. Internment will take place at Notre Dame Cemetery later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lorraine may be made to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
