A number of cars have been damaged along St. Laurent Boulevard, but Ottawa police believe they have the destruction-causing driver in custody.
Officers received public complaints about a person driving erratically in the St. Laurent Boulevard and Donald Street area this week. On Tuesday and Wednesday, a man was stopped by police and charged with various driving violations and criminal charges.
Police then responded to multiple 911 calls about a potentially impaired driver in the same area, around 8 a.m., Friday. Multiple cars had been hit by the erratic driver.
Officers searched the area to find the suspect’s vehicle. A chase was underway at one point, but was immediately called off due to public safety risks. Officers did, however, remain in the area. During the search, a police cruiser collided with another vehicle at the intersection of St. Laurent Boulevard and Tremblay Avenue. Both the member of the public and the officer suffered minor injuries.
Following another call from a member of the public, police spotted the suspected vehicle nearby and the driver was arrested.
Danny Naman, 24, of Ottawa, faces the following charges:
- Operation while Impaired
- Dangerous Operation
- Failure to Stop after Accident
- Flight from Police Officer
- Unlawfully Possess Schedule I Substance
- Drive Motor Vehicle while Suspended
- Transporting Cannabis
He is scheduled to appear in court, Saturday.
