A second degree murder charge is being laid in the death of Joey Morin in Gatineau.
Kamy Lafrenière, 28, was arrested Tuesday in Rouyn-Noranda, in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue area.
Gatineau Police Service investigators searched a property in a small municipality, about 30 km north of La Sarre on Tuesday, after determining that the accused had left the Outaouais region in the days following the discovery of the body.
Police said Lafrenière was a close friend and the new roommate of Morin's.
Officers discovered the lifeless body of the 23-year-old on April 21 at approximately 10 a.m. in his basement apartment at 193 Fernand-Arvisais Street, after being called for a wellness check.
An autopsy showed that the victim died from serious head injuries caused by a blunt object.
Investigators believe the murder could have taken place anytime in the week leading up to their discovery.
Lafrenière is expected in court Wednesday.
