One dead after car and truck crash on Hwy 401 near Morrisburg

OPP are investigating how a vehicle ended up driving eastbound in the westbound lanes.

One man is dead after a head-on collision along Highway 401 westbound, between Upper Canada Road and County Road 31, in South Dundas Township.

Ontario Provincial Police officers say a tractor trailer was travelling westbound on Highway 401 when, for reasons still under investigation, a passenger vehicle entered roadway travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes, and collided with the westbound tractor trailer around 9:37 a.m., Wednesday.

The male driver, and lone occupant, of the eastbound passenger vehicle was pronounced dead at scene.

Names are being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry OPP continue to process the scene and investigate the collision with the assistance of the OPP Traffic Collision Investigators.

As the investigation continues, a section (westbound lanes) of Highway 401 between Upper Canada Road and County Road 31, South Dundas Township is closed to traffic with indicated detours in place.
