The Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the OPP are investigating a collision involving a tractor trailer and passenger vehicle on Highway 17.

Police, along with the Laurentian Valley Township Fire Department and Pembroke Fire Department, were called to the intersection of Highway 17 at Whitewater Road in the Whitewater Region Saturday.

The trailer carrying a driver and passenger was heading westbound on the highway, while the passenger vehicle was driving northbound on Whitewater Road when the two vehicles collided.

The 68-year-old driver of the passenger vehicle, a resident of the Whitewater Region, sustained non-life threatening injuries but was transported from the scene by ambulance to hospital.

The driver and passenger of the tracter trailer were not injured.

OPP have decided to charge the 53-year-old driver of the commercial vehicle trailer, who is a resident of Saint-Andrew-d’Argenteuil, Que, with failure to stop at a red light.

Lane reductions on Highway 17 are expected to last until about 8 p.m. Saturday.
